Starsky & Hutch

Alone by Daydreamer

Long, unashamedly sentimental hurt/comfort piece (multiple award winner in the 2003 Torino Awards). Gen, though with much physical affection. The plot is as generic as they come (Hutch is captured and imprisoned, then found & nursed back to health by Starsky). What makes it special is the way that this story is not just about the love and support between Starsky and Hutch, but between a whole network of people including Dobey, Ma Starsky, and particularly Starsky's temporary partner Pete Ferguson. The story also has masterful control of tone and pace throughout. Rated R for language & psychological torture.

Midsummer by Sylvia

Another 'Hutch is kidnapped' story. This one is, of all things, a Starsky & Hutch/Midsummer Night's Dream crossover, but it works surprisingly well, picking up on the mythic aspect of all heroes, as well as having a great deal of fun with Puck. Witty, confident, and well worth a look. Gen. Rated PG-13.

Malory Towers

Ten Years, Saint Catherine, and The Night Before all by Paranoidkitten

Three short PG-rated Malory Towers pieces, each exploring a different pairing (femslash, but non explicit). They're not linked, but they're all of equally high quality and seem to belong together as a demonstration of paranoidkitten's range. Mature, sophisticated, bittersweet in places, humorous in others and above all conveying so so much in so so few well-chosen words.

Peter Pan

Confession by Little White Bird

Hook goes to confession. I can't say much more without spoiling it. A short, beautifully written, perfectly characterised, and gloriously ruthless piece of writing.

Real Person Fic

Vermillion, Viridian, Alizarin by novanumbernine

Orlando Bloom/Viggo Mortensen. Slash. AU. Something a bit different. A haunting fairytale, dripping with vivid imagery.

Practice by kHo

Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson. Slash, but (passionate) kissing only. KHo has a sharp ear for dialogue and an even sharper eye for body language, and she tells this story using both of these and almost nothing else. There's not a sentence wasted in this short but perfectly formed bittersweet/sweet piece.
