This is better overall than Momentary Lapse as they sound more like a band again, instead of a bunch of studio producers. The basic Floyd sound is still there, but it's more varied this time. The lyrics are marginally better, although Dave hade some help from his wife here! What Do You Want From Me and Take it Back are fairly good straight rock songs. The pomp anthems are hit and miss - A Great Day for Freedom is slightly limp, but Coming Back to Life and High Hopes are strong songs. Keep Talking shows that they still have the tendency (as on Momentary Lapse) of singing the lyrics on all one note when they can't think of a tune. Mostly the strength of this album is in the instrumentals, the production polish and ear candy, which is fine if you like this side of Floyd, but it's not for those who only like The Wall for Roger's weighty concept lyrics.
