On this short collection of pieces featured in the TV series "Robin of Sherwood", Clannad show their strength for atmospheric little nuggets, and more besides. Their style of austere layered vocals, Irish traditional instrumentation and modern synth colouring, is perfectly suited to the medieval legend. It continues the original they had presented on "Magical Ring" with stuff like "Harry's Game" and "Newgrange". Title music "Robin (The Hooded Man)" is a neat idea, combining a perky little tune with a repetitive chant of the title. The evocative lute and flute dialogue "Lady Marian" is an obvious but attractive signature for his lass. It's good incidental music, with the occasional twist. The slinky "Herne" and the off-beat "Scarlet Inside" are songs with personality, a little more interesting than simple scene painting.
