HotelsIf you'd like us to book accommodation for you, let us know which nights you'd like to stay, how you'll be travelling and where you'd like to stay and we'll get something organised. Details of local hotels are below, so if you'd like to book accommodation yourself then there should be enough information available to do so. 1. Marston Moretaine Marston Moretaine is quite a small village, so not many places to stay. Your best bet is the local Travelodge: this is situated on the only roundabout on the A421 between the outskirts of Bedford and the M1, so it's quite hard to miss! It's a short walk to the Manor from the travelodge (see the map on the Manor's website) but note that you have to cross a very busy road. There is a foot crossing a little way south of the roundabout. Rooms can be booked online at their webpage here, or you can phone them on 0878 191 1511. It's currently £46/night for an ensuite room with double bed, sofa and pullout. There's also a bed-and-breakfast in the village itself: The Old Rectory Guesthouse (formerly called the Coachhouse). You can book rooms by calling 01234 767794. It's likely to be about £53 per night for an ensuite double room with breakfast. 2. Bedford If you don't want to stay in Marston Moretaine, there are plenty of hotels in Bedford and Woburn Sands which are a short car or train journey away. See the travel page for details of how to get from Bedford to the Manor. Some (by no means all!) are shown on the Google Local page . We live just across the road from The Shakespeare Hotel, which is a very nice place to stay if you don't mind the slightly tacky Shakespeare theme. It has a website here including a booking form, and is contactable on 01234 213147. Single/double rooms are around £50/65 and include breakfast. Also just down the road from us are the Edwardian House Hotel (around £50/60/70 /night for single/double/family room, breakfast included, 01234 261332 although they do have a sign outside claiming £35/night) and the Tennyson House Hotel (B&B, £40/25 for twin/single rooms, 01234 328876). All the hotels on Shakespeare Road are about five minutes' walk from the station, fifteen minutes' walk from the bus station and are near the A6 and A428. If you'd like to stay somewhere which has an interesting history, there's also The Swan, which is alongside the River Ouse and was built in 1794 for the 5th Duke of Bedford. Prices start at £60, and you can book online here or by phoning 01234 346565. 3. Other The Travelodge at Toddington services (map) on the M1, or Milton Keynes Central (map) are currently offering family rooms at the bargain rate of £26. Both are about 11 miles from Marston Moretaine. Chris & Lynnette chrislynnette@fluffhouse.org.uk |
